Up the road from Chapel Hill lies historic Hillsborough, the county seat. The town contains more than 100 homes and other buildings from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Founded where the Great Indian Trading Path crossed the Eno River, Hillsborough played host to our nation's Constitutional Convention of 1788. Today, it houses several quaint bed and breakfasts, an old-fashioned soda fountain, and the expansive new Triangle Park Sportsplex, with its ice skating and swimming facilities. You will also find the 1815 Ayr Mount estate, one of the finest Federal-style houses in the state.
Orange County is a haven for bicyclists, hikers, bird watchers, canoeists, and nature lovers. Traveling here is easy. I-85 and I-40 pass through the area, and the Raleigh-Durham International Airport serves as a central point for national and international travelers. Need help planning a visit?
